Looks like tags are a thing on posts and questions, and there’s a tag cloud in the sidebar. I can select existing tags but can’t create new ones. If community members could add their own tags it could be a good way to categorize content going forward.

Ah, you’re right, yes. Tags can’t currently be added to or changed by the community members. I’ve been back and forth about this myself when setting the community up.
I totally agree about the value of tags in categorising content, and that only becomes more and more important as activity ramps up.
The only reason I didn’t open up the option for everyone to add new tags is the (admittedly small) concern about thousands of tags appearing! Particular variations on the same tag - that’s the biggest issue, probably.
But this does warrant consideration, so thanks for raising it. It’s on the radar!
