Fan Speed Control? 🌬️

Hey!
PCIe card did run out of the box with a first running demo in minutes with no issues!

Question: Is there a way to control the fan speed to reduce the noise of the card?

Thanks!

hey, we are very soon going to release an SDK update that will enable automatic fan speed control on the PCIe card. We agree it is unnecessarily noisy :)

Thanks for your patience!

Hi @alex, welcome on board! It’s not currently possible, but I think the idea may have been floated around.

It’d be good if you could add that as a feature request in the Launchpad, to help the team gauge how popular that option would be 👍 If it gets some upvotes that’d be a good indication.

(To add an feature request, create a new post, and select “Idea” as the post type).

Great question, and thanks for sharing it! Are you working on a project with the Metis PCIe at the moment?

Hi, I did not notice a lot of difference in noise generated by Metis Fan after the 1.3 release.

How to know if it is working or not ?

Is that on the M.2, or a PCIe card, @mcunha ?

HI @Spanner,

In fact, I have a M.2 card.

I see now that the fan control is just for PCIe card. :)

If it is not already supported for M2 Cards, do you have a roadmap to support it?

Actually, I’m not sure, I’ll check into that.

There’s a lot of work being put into a passive cooling option, which will do away with the fan entirely (at least, as far as most applications are concened) though that won’t help people who already have the active cooling.

But I’ll let you know when I do!
