Hey everyone,

I’m super excited to share that my project, Drain Sentinel, has been selected for the Axcelera AI competition and I couldn’t be more fired up about what’s ahead.

So, what am I building?

A vision-powered AI system that watches over storm drains and detects blockages before they turn into floods. It’s like giving cities a real-time eye on their drainage system with smart alerts, voice warnings, and action triggers to keep the streets safe.

This project matters to me because I’ve seen firsthand how something as simple as a blocked drain can shut down entire communities, destroy homes, and put lives at risk. We lose time, money, and momentum every time a flood hits, and it’s time we got smarter about preventing it.

DrainSentinel aims to solve that by flipping the script: from reacting to disaster… to predicting and preventing it.

I’ll be starting by training our AI model to recognize clogged drains, connecting it to real-time alerts, and running live tests in simulated environments, with an eye on taking this to the streets of Lagos soon after.
