Hi everyone!

My name is Brett, I am a full-time single dad, assistant soccer and softball coach, and software engineer based out of Portland, Oregon.

For the Project Challenge, I’m building an AI-powered safety and wellness monitoring system for seniors living independently. The Elderly Safety Guardian will use computer vision with the Metis AI Accelerator to detect falls or unusual inactivity, and then check in with the resident through Alexa, turn on lights, and alert caregivers if needed. My goal is to give families peace of mind while helping elderly loved ones stay safe at home.

This project matters to me because I’ve seen how difficult it can be for families to balance a loved one’s independence with their safety, especially as they get older. I want to create a solution that bridges that gap, empowering seniors to live confidently while still having support when it’s needed most.

To start, I’ll be setting up the camera hardware and building out local fall and inactivity detection with pose estimation models, then integrating Alexa and smart lighting for responsive actions.

Excited to get building and connect with others in the community!

This is an awesome idea! I know from personal experience how important it is for people to be able to remain in their own homes as they become older and more infirm, so there’s a really positive, valuable angle to using AI this way.

Looking forward to seeing it!

Totally agree. This could be life changing for a lot of people when they’re at their most vulnerable, and it’ll be great to see something so positive come out of the AI sector. Go for it @moorebrett0!

That’s awesome, Brett! We’re working on something very similar —Passive IoT Health Monitor for Continuous Elder-Care. Would love to exchange insights around sensor integration and responsive actions

Thank you for sharing. Very good idea. Some elderly people don't want to spent rest of they lives in hospitals or other places different than they home. Their relatives sometimes living far away and is difficult for them to visit elderly loves every day. As an example my neighbour has this situation. Very often ambulances or firefighters visiting her house because she is not always able to things like others do. AI will definitely helps these people. Monitor what is going on and support if needed keeping privacy as it should. Looking forward for this project results.

This is such an awesome project! I take care of a parent and I am always terrified she’ll have a fall when I‘m not there and I won’t know. I was trying to get her to wear a watch with fall detection but she won’t, so a solution like this would be perfect! Best of luck with the challenge 🚀

@Noneed - checkout my new post (pending approval), it gives a high level overview of my pipeline and my architecture (using voyager SDK)
