can’t get the pcie card to show up with lspci on this lenovo thinkcenter 720q, fan powers up but doesnt show up

Best answer by Keith Sachs

ahhh i got it to work, i had to make some changes in grub shell to 1) enable above 4G decode, and 2) Force the Peg root port to be enabled, i guess the metis takes longer to train

Hi there @Keith Sachs ! I’m not sure I’ve seen much of the Thinkcenters… do you know if it can supply enough power to a Metis PCIe? (Around 75w, is it?).

I feel like someone previously mentioned needing a riser card for a Lenovo too, but I can’t find it now...

Should be able to i would think, i shoved a 135W psu at it and the system its self only draws maybe 30w under load
and yeah it does use a riser card and i fear that may infact be the problem but i was hoping to get some other opinions haha

oh another note i was browsing last night and i see that ubuntu 22 is what is recommended but i installed 24 before seeing that, not sure if that could be the cause of my headaches but i would imagine it would show up at least with lspci in 24?

one more update for you, i realized i had a gigabit pcie nic laying around, put that in the pcie riser to test and it does show up so the riser its self should work.

Ah, great work @Keith Sachs !

At least regarding Ubuntu, 24.04 is fully supported now. It was previously only working in Docker, but you can use it natively now as you probably found 👍

What’s the project you’re working on, by the way?

@Spanner I basically want to make a Yarbo, little yard robot for mowing my lawn / snowblowing / etc

Oh awesome! I was just fiddling with some home automation stuff myself.

So are you thinking that this’ll be automomous? Like, all the AI hardware in the robot itself?

Love it. Make sure you keep us posted on how it’s going! Really want to see this in action. I feel like I might need one… 😅
